Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a red blood cell disorder. The disorder is inherit from each parent genes. Basically, everyone has hemoglobin in there blood cells, but people with the SCD have abnormal hemoglobin called hemoglobin S or sickle hemoglobin. The genes inherit by the parents can variates causing different kinds of sickle cell. For example, When a person has two hemoglobin S genes, Hemoglobin SS, the disease is called sickle cell anemia. (NHLBI). The affects of the hemoglobin S genes is that it Alters the shape of a red blood cells to a Sickle shape. Normally red blood cell in shape as a full circle causing it to be able to travel through the body and deliver oxygen. This is not the cause the sickle shape make it difficult at times to deliver oxygen into nearby tissues and can even cause blockage take can stop the flow of blood. When this occurs it causes a person with sickle cell to have extreme pain also known as a pain crisis.
